Why Alkalinize The Diet?

Lately there has been a movement centered around alkalinity when it comes to the diet. They are alkaline foods and water, but why? What’s driving people to becoming so interested in creating a more alkaline environment in the body? Also, is it good for us in the long run? In this blog post we’ll dive a little deeper in to the why and the how of alkalizing our diet.

Human blood plasma pH runs along the range of 7.35-7.45 which is slightly alkaline due to water being neutral at 7, and anything below is acidic and anything above is alkaline.

The natural ratio in a normal healthy body of alkaline/acid balance is about 4 to 1. Four parts alkaline and one part acidic. This allows the body to build a strong resistance against disease. It has been discovered that a person who typically has more of an acidic body chemistry will recover faster from illness when alkalinizing their diet.

The point isn’t to stop eating acidic foods, because we need some of them like our proteins for the formation of our amino acids to make the protein in our body. However, finding a balance is vital. Eating alkaline foods with the acidic with help neutralize the meal itself not leading to inflammation.

So is alkalinizing the body good for us? I'd say yes! If you find the right balance, being too alkaline can cause issues just as being too acidic can. Finding that happy medium is the best way to go!

Here is a list of foods and where they are on the alkaline/acid scale:
