The Purpose of Multivitamin

Multivitamins, we always hear about taking them but why? For starters let's begin with our nutrition. Even when you eat a well balanced diet you most likely will not receive all of the vitamins and minerals needed for physiological function. This is due to numerous reason; eating too much processed foods, cooking our foods and soil depletion within farmlands are just a few. With the advancement of society the quality of our food has suffered because of mass production. A lot of companies rely on quantity rather than quality. This is where the multivitamin come into play!

How a multivitamin can benefit you!

Although I did say that with the advancement of society has followed with foods that may be lacking in nutrients. The technologies to replace these nutrients has also occurred and that would be the multivitamin! What exactly do multivitamins do? To sum it up in simple terms they help our enzymes function. Better functioning enzymes means that our body can carry out these cellular processes at an efficient rate. They have the ability to help you get back what you may be missing in your diet to increase your health!

How to shop for a multi?

1. Avoid multis that contain iron and calcium.

Calcium can affect iron's ability to be absorbed and this can be an issue for those with iron deficiency.

2. Look for activated forms of the nutrients within the multi.

When you take the active form of a nutrient, you’re skipping a step that your body would need to take care of for the nutrient to do its job.

3. Avoid synthetic folic acids

There are some people who may have a genetic mutation that won't allow their body to transform it into its active form so it's best to stay clear of those and only buy folate.

4. Watch out for fillers and additives.

Manufacturers will add these to prolong the shelf life or make the product visually look more appealing but know that you don't need that.

Of course at the end of the day getting your vitamins and minerals from your food is the BEST options. However, if you are looking for a multivitamin here is one that we support and use.
