Helpful Mindset Shifts

Mindset plays a huge role in our everyday lives. It can allow us to take on different perspectives dealing with situations in life that can either help or harm our overall wellbeing because fitness isn't only physical. There are a few mindset shifts that can help aid in our mental fitness allowing us to promote overall wellness.

1. We don’t always have control over our circumstances, but regardless of what situation we find ourself in, even though don’t have control over it, we always have choices. Excuses such as “I can’t do this because of this” is just a way to stop us from taking responsibility of our lives. Of course there will be times when circumstances heavily influence outcomes but for the day to day inconveniences there are options. For example, let's say you had a late night and slept in on accident and missed your workout that morning, but you know you can go after work. The problem is that you'll be tired. Being tired is the excuse stopping you from your responsibility to care for your physical body. Although, yes you missed the morning class there is still an evening one and sometimes we have to choose to do the things we may not want to do because they are good for us.

2. There is no "there" & there is no "when". The saying “When i get there then......” creates this idea that when we get to a certain place all our problems will go away. That couldn't be further from the truth. Happiness, contentment, & stability are inside jobs. As human beings we believe that there will be this "place" that we'll finally reach where we will be fulfilled, but the truth is all that comes is “what’s next” contentment can only be done within. Having goals is for growing and creating gratitude for what all you have achieved. It’s not about striving to an end point but thriving while on a journey.

3. It's human nature to become envious of others when they attain something that you may have been working toward too. We tend to feel upset because for some reason we believe that now that they have achieved whatever it may be that there is no more room. Something to remember is that there is NOT an limited amount of joy, success or happiness in the world. THERE IS ENOUGH FOR EVERYONE. If anything seeing someone else did it should be encouraging because it shows it’s possible. It makes the goal more realistic, and turning that envy into inspiration will carry you much farther.

These are just a few mindset shifts to become aware of. It may take some time to fully incorporate them into your everyday life, but they can help free us from the everyday mental quarrels we may have. Mindset can truly shape one's life, and allowing it to work in your best interest can make a huge difference.
