What Can Consciousness Do For You?

A big contributing factor to our health is consciousness. Our consciousness is able to influence our physiology due to our thoughts. Someone can think a thought about something they enjoy eating and then begin to salivate. Another really great example of consciousness affecting physiology is the ability to alter consciousness through meditation and stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system to take over, repairing the body.

Anatomy can be closely linked with consciousness, when we decide to get up and walk around, pick something up, smile or any voluntary movement it starts with conscious thought. This thought fires in our prefrontal cortex and travels through the cortex into our ventral horn to synapse on whatever motor neuron we need to fire to produce the desired movement. Also, a man named Joe Dispenza was in a horrible accident where he was knocked off a bike by a car and destroyed his spine and was paralyzed. He took a year of conscious mindful thought to repair his injury and was able to heal the vertebrae and ultimately recover, when told he had the slimmest odds.

Psychology is the science of the mind and behavior which heavily connects to consciousness. The ability to be self aware and think thoughts plays a huge role. We can think about something that was absolutely traumatizing and behavior in that moment may shift expressing sadness or a need to be alone. Not only that, but the sum of experiences a person has lived allows them to deduce the person that they are. Therefore if they only remember the very negative things because those had the biggest impact on their life their behavior and presentation of themselves become very negative as well.

I hope this encourages you to begin practicing having your consciousness to work for you to reach the health goals you’re working for.
