How To Vacation And Make Nutrition A Priority

Nutrition and traveling is a huge dilemma people are constantly facing. Especially with all the trips over summers and for the holidays to come directly after. Is it possible to eat clean and travel? YES 100%! Is it realistic to think you’ll do it spotlessly each time? Probably not.

Vacationing/travel is the time to relax and enjoy, which means food will most likely be in that combination. It doesn’t mean you should completely get off track, especially if you’ll be gone a few weeks or so. However, nutrition is the foundation from which we are made. Therefore if you eat like crap… you’ll feel like crap. Nobody wants that on vacation!

There are a few really great options to stay feeling as nourished as possible while still enjoying yourself. The first being, once you get to your destination, going to the grocery store and picking up your essentials. If you can manage to prepare most of your meals and only indulge a few meals out of the trip rather than all of them. The second, for those of you who don’t want to cook, is finding a meal prep service and having them schedule a delivery for the meals when you get to your destination. Once again, you don’t have to do every meal. I’d say to just do the meals that you know aren’t usually the social events and eat how you’d like during those! The third is practicing mindful eating! If you are eating out, try to read each ingredient on the menu and ask questions when you’re not sure! Don’t eat with you eyes! And stop once you are satisfied NOT FULL! A lot of restaurants are supporting the consumer and their want for healthier options which is great because there may be a section of the menu dedicated to healthy meals that are also delicious that you can choose from!

You can even do a combination of all three of these! The important thing is to remember you don’t have to get this perfect! You SHOULD enjoy life! If you end up eating to much or even not enough of anything nutritious it’s okay! You’re human and can always make it better with the next meal!
