Flow State

We all know that feeling of being insanely productive. You're moving through your work with ease and absolutely enjoying it. This can be referred to as the "flow state." Wouldn't it be nice if you could always be this efficient? Well, you can!

Reaching this state is very possible and actually pretty easy to do. All you need to know is what triggers your flow and roll with it. This feeling can be seen to be more satisfying than vacationing. This is because as a society we like to feel a sense of achievement. When you can easily access your flow state it makes challenging tasks more enjoyable.

Once you identify your triggers you can begin practicing and mastering this skill!

Eliminate All Distractions

It's important to get rid of thoughts or stressors (internal), cell phones or TVs (external). These internal and external disturbances will cause you to disconnect from your task. Those distractions will become the forefront on your mind rather than the work at hand. A great thing you can is silence your phone or place it on do not disturb mode to lessen external distractions. Also, try finding a space that you will not be disturbed by others! For internal, try journaling or meditation or any practice that helps you release the control that stress has on your mind.

Work At Your Peak Time

This is VERY important. When your energy levels are low you just aren't as optimal, creative or resilient. If this means going to bed earlier so that you can wake up in the morning and give yourself an extra hour or two to bang out a task you should make it happen! Maybe you're thinking "what's one to two extra hours going to do for me if I have an 8 hour day's worth of work?" The answer is A LOT. How many things have you put off because you just don't have the energy? Probably many. And that's what working at your peak time can do for you! It allows you to have that energy to flow through these tasks!

Set Clear Intentions

Setting a clear intention or goal helps your flow state set in naturally. Your mind will be fixed on your intention and function to to do the things that will aid in you achieving that goal. Whether it be retaining information better while reading or typing out vital emails. Having your intentions written down in a planner or just a piece of paper to cross off helps remind you EXACTLY what you're doing. Allowing you to stay on task and easily flow through the work at hand.

Practicing to master getting into your flow state will help increase your day's productivity, and honestly your mood too. If you weren't so stressed out about that presentation at work, that project for school, or that paper you need to write, think of the burden that would be lifted off your shoulders!
